Get ready, because FIERCE is in only seven more days! The theme for this year’s FIERCE is Kasama, as you might have seen on our Instagram account. Kasama is a Tagalog verb meaning “to be together”; it’s also a noun that means “companion” or “friend.”
We chose kasama to be our theme to stress the importance of community. Community and togetherness is central to FIERCE; we think of ourselves—committee, mentors, and all of you!—to be a part of our FIERCE family. We are all Filipinx American/Asian American students struggling to find our place in education, in America, in our home countries. The bonds we form and the community we create is what makes FIERCE so impactful.
To get to know our kasamas a little better, we asked you all to post on social media with the hashtag #FIERCEKasama with an answer to the question, “What does it mean to be a part of the Filipinx American/Asian American community?” Here are some answers:
Make sure to check our instagram for this week's prompt! We're so excited to meet you all.
